EASTER BUNNY SUPERHERO, Part 1

SHORT FILMS No Comments »

Time: 3:30

The Easter Bunny, weary of being taken for granted and getting no respect, applies for Super Hero Class A. But when the Super Hero Commission learns of Bunny’s not so perfect past, his application for super hero status is in jeopardy. The film’s story is that of an underdog, or under-bunny, in this case.

Easter Bunny Superhero is a 7-minute short film produced by Team Psycho Film Binge for Jacksonville, Florida’s 2007 48 Hour Film Project. It won 7 awards in the competition: Best of Jacksonville (top award), Audience Award (Group A), Best Acting (Ensemble), Best Cinematography (Kirby Hamilton), Best Costume (Suzy Freeman), Best Screenplay (Sharon Y. Cobb) and Best Use of Character.

The film also won a bronze 2008 Telly Award and will be shown in A World of Shorts presented by CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival and the National Film Board of Canada on April 15, 2009.

The short was directed by Dan Solomon and produced by Danny Quitter, Psycho Film Binge team leader. For a full list of credits, click here: http://funnyfixx.com/blog/cast-and-credits-short-films/

FUNNYFIXX NOTE: If your town hosts a 48 Hour Film Project competition and you haven’t been on a team…to write, shoot, direct, act, produce, crew, edit, compose music, do makeup, create costumes or sets or anything to get the short film made in 48 hours…do yourself a gigantic favor and jump in!! It’s a total adrenaline rush to be on a team of 5 or 50 frantically working toward one common goal—make a 7-minute film in 2 days.

I was lucky enough to get drafted by a long-time friend, Danny Quitter, to write a script for their team during the first year of Jacksonville, Florida’s plunge into the weekend filmmaking madness. The experience proved I didn’t need to wait for Hollywood to buy my scripts, I…with help of a few friends…could make films.

Easter Bunny Superhero was the launching pad for all the short films, webisodes and videos I’ve made since then, almost 90 total now…with the help of a lot of friends. Three cheers for our side!

WINSTON’S VBLOG: THE DIET

FUNNY ANIMATION No Comments »

Time: 2:13

The five roommates of the new animated comedy sitcom “Animal Nation” share a lot of laughs and love, when they’re not busy pissing each other off! These guys like to spend quality time together—ordering takeout, talking about girls and complaining about Winston’s digestive system. Their apartment is literally a zoo…and it’s never been more hilarious!

In this Animal Nation video Winston, the pig, starts a diet then gets distracted by waffles. He tries again at lunch and eats his first salad which he did not like at all. Will poor Winston survive his first day on a diet?

FUNNYFIXX NOTE: Anyone who’s been on a diet knows it’s a terrifying experience. Anyone who has never been on a diet and starts their first day of dieting is in for a bumpy ride just like poor Winston.

Creator of Animal Nation is Sergio Lebrija. He started doing animation in 1994 – mostly 3d work for commercials and architectural walk-throughs. About 4 years later, he began creating cartoons.

He’s also currently working on another show in Spanish for the Telemundo TV Network in the US, a show he created, called “La Familia del Barrio.” It has been on the air for 2 and a half years.

34-year old animator Sergio Lebrija lives in Mexico City, is married with 2 daughters and a baby boy.

FUNNYFIXX NOTE: You know how in life things feel out of control, then suddenly there’s a moment of calm where you have some sense of balance? Like there’s hope after all. There’s a way out of the mess you’re in. In the third part of The Last Audit that’s where Alex and Zuzu find themselves. Until…the police show up. Then everything reels out of control again. Sounds like real life, doesn’t it?

THE LAST AUDIT, Part 2

In Part 2 of The Last Audit, Alex’s plot to murder Needleman goes awry when Needleman disappears. Then it’s a panicked search through the house with kitchen tools for weapons. When they do find Needleman, they think he’s already accidentally killed himself.

For full credits of the talented cast and crew, click here: http://funnyfixx.com/blog/cast-and-credits-short-films/

FUNNYFIXX NOTE: When I wrote this script many years ago, the economy was booming, people were driving new Ferraris and buying mansions. Entrepreneurs like Alex and Zuzu in The Last Audit were opening new cafes and raking in the dough. So it was a stretch to imagine these characters would have to turn to desperate measures to solve their IRS problem. Buy, hey, it makes a funny film, right?

Today, millions of people are losing their homes and businesses. Not because of the IRS auditor from hell but because of the economy from hell. In today’s atmosphere of desperation a lot more people can identify with Alex and Zuzu’s extreme behavior as they step over the line of normal life into a quagmire of chaos.

THE LAST AUDIT, Part 1

THE LAST AUDIT 2 Comments »

Time: 3:33

Nothing strikes fear into the hearts of taxpayers like the words: tax audit. But if you’re honest and pay your taxes on time, you have nothing to worry about, right? Wrong. If you’re unlucky enough to get the IRS auditor from hell, Ernest Needleman, be afraid, very afraid. When Needleman comes to confiscate their café, their home, their lives…Alex and Zuzu must stop him anyway they can.

In Part 1 of The Last Audit, Alex and Zuzu take their IRS auditor hostage. When they can’t figure out what to do with him, Alex decides they must kill him.

This short film premieres in three parts just in time for TAX DAY!! It’s a production of Short Film Machine in association with Kirby Hamilton & Co., Mad Gator Films and Lindsey Films. Directed and cinematography by Kirby Hamilton. Written by Sharon Y. Cobb. Edited by Colin Williams. Music composed and performed by Shawn K. Clement. Starring William Kent as Alex, Raiko Bowman as Zuzu and Daniel Johnson as Needleman. For full credits of the talented cast and crew, click here: http://funnyfixx.com/blog/cast-and-credits-short-films/

FUNNYFIXX NOTE: When I lived in Los Angeles, I wrote this short film for French Stewart, Cynthia Gravinese Brown and another actor friend of French’s. At the time French was starring in a popular sitcom, “Third Rock From The Sun.” On the show, he played the dorky alien and was looking for a short film with a leading man role that would get him off the dork train, as he put it. We assembled a full cast and crew of LA pros and were within two weeks of shooting when the budget plug got pulled by the money-guy whose new bride couldn’t see spending $52,000 to make a 10-minute film in 35mm.

Many years later Kent and Pepper Lindsay and Kirby Hamilton and I teamed up as Short Film Machine to finally get The Last Audit made. It premiered at the 2008 Jacksonville Film Festival and now…to honor April 15 (Tax Day) we’re launching The Last Audit on the internet in three parts. Enjoy!
